Walk into any kirana store and you’ll find tea sold in a few different cuts — usually leaf and dust — and it’s a fair question why the same brand offers both. The answer comes down to how each brews and what kind of chai you’re making.
Leaf tea, like our Ganga Kadak Leaf Tea, is made from larger, less broken pieces of the leaf. It brews a bit more slowly and gives a smoother, rounder cup — a good choice if you like your chai steeped a little longer, or if you’re making a lighter pot without too much milk.
Dust tea, on the other hand, is made from smaller, finely broken particles left over from processing. Because of the increased surface area, it releases colour and strength almost instantly — ideal for the quick, strong “cutting chai” style that’s brewed fast on a busy morning.
Neither is better than the other — it really depends on how you drink your chai. Many households actually keep both on hand, using dust for the everyday rush and leaf tea for a slower cup on a lazy weekend.
